Year 11 Entry Workshop: John Monash, Elizabeth Blackburn and Selective Schools

For families whose child is in Year 9 now. Ninety minutes on the schools that open places to this group, and how each of their exams and application processes actually work.

Note: continuation is highly dependent on enrolments into the workshop.

• Elizabeth Blackburn Sciences, Year 11 entry
• John Monash Science School, Year 11 entry
• Melbourne High School, MacRobertson Girls' High School, Suzanne Cory High School and Nossal High School, Year 11 entry
• Scholarship rounds at the schools that set the same Edutest paper, including Haileybury, Caulfield Grammar, Carey, Brighton Grammar, Westbourne and Ballarat Grammar

For each one: who is eligible, when applications open and close, what the exam contains, how the school decides, and what a family should be doing between now and then.

Selective and scholarship both, because they are the same paper. One sitting of the Edutest exam puts your child in front of every school on this list, and there are more than sixty of them running a round this year.

The rough timeline

• Registrations close about three weeks before the exam.
• The exams sit in June 2027.
• Shortlist invitations land about two months after the exam, then interviews.
• Offers land about three months after the exam, with roughly a week to accept.

The 2028 round dates are not published yet. We will show you the ones each school has confirmed and tell you plainly which are still last year's rolled forward.

Who it is for

Students in Year 9 now, Year 10 in 2027, and their parents. Parents are welcome on their own if your child cannot make it.

On the day

Free, at Monash University, Clayton, 6pm to 7:30pm. Nothing to bring but questions. The Year 11 Entry Prep Mock runs the next morning at the same venue if you want to see where your child currently sits.

Is it free?

Yes. Book a ticket on this page and no card is asked for.

Do we need to bring anything?

No. Bring questions. We will cover the ground either way, but the useful part is usually the specific question about your own child.

Should my child come, or is this for parents?

Either, and both is best. The content is aimed at the person making the decisions, so a parent on their own gets full value. Students in Year 9 now get the most out of the exam and preparation part.

Which of the workshops should we come to?

The one that matches your child's year level. This 6pm session is Year 11 entry. The earlier sessions at 10am, 12pm and 3pm are all Year 10 entry, so they cover different schools and different exams and will not be useful to a Year 9 student.

Do we have to do the mock exam as well?

No. The Year 11 Entry Prep Mock the next morning is separate and also free. The workshop tells you how the round works, the mock tells you where your child currently sits, and they are worth more together than apart.
